Cub for a Day

I was a Chicago Cub for a day…at least in my dreams. I was watching a NY Mets vs. St. Louis Cardinals game when I apparently drifted off to sleep.

The next thing I know I am playing right field in a spring training game for the Chicago Cubs. The ball is hit well over my head. I turn to chase the ball and realized it is going to hit the wall. To my pleasant surprise the wall is identical to the wall at Dick Howser Stadium. I've seen this play thousands of times. I know exactly where this ball is going. So I place myself in perfect position to play the ball of the wall...but that's not how it worked out. The ball hit the wall exactly as I predicted but than it bounced and hit the ground in front of me and instead of bouncing right to me like it's supposed to the ball bounces ten feet over my head.

When I finally get the ball I see it is not a typical baseball. Half the ball is normal but half is a holograph of the Cubs logo. I take the ball out to my car and put it there so I can add it to my collection. I then came into the dugout to take my turn at bat. No one seemed to know the batting order so I waited my turn. Than it hit me...Dusty Baker manages the Cubs. I should find him and get him to sign some stuff. I woke up as I was looking for Dusty. I never did get my turn to bat. I'm sure I would have taken 'em deep.

Gene Gene The Sports Machine

Apparently Gene doesn't just broadcast the games when he has a microphone. The Tampa Bay Bucs and Florida State football and basketball anouncer enjoys giving the play by play from the stands as well. Only this time his only audience was his grandkids. And those of us who happen to be sitting near by. It was interesting to see Gene not on the job but just taking in the game with his grandkids. He was taking video and pictures and all the while explaing the game and who the players were to his grandkids. It was interesting. I've been a huge Deckerhoff fan sence I was a kid. After today it's good to know that he's a fan too...not just a broadcaster.

The Journey Home

The Journey Home begins early Saturday morning with a trip through Laguardia

Josh and Drew color together after breakfast

A stop in Washing...a small price to pay for 4 more FREE tickets! Where to?

Back in Charlotte and only a couple hours from home...

Once we arrived back home it was a quick turn around out to Dick Howser where I met John Ventry to watch the 'Noles blast Duke.

Than it was to Po Boy's where we took in a bar brawl. I'm still not sure what that was about. Several guys in Virginia Tech shirts, a couple in 'Noles shirts. Some old guys. Some young guys. Some ladies with children. And somehow a disagreement that led to two of them going into the bathroom and beating the tar out of one another.

Than we went back to the staduim to watch Jenska get dunked in the fountain for her 19th birthday. With friends like these...

New York Day 4

Today was an interesting day in New York. It began with the Johnny Cash musical on the Today Show followed by a tour of the United Nations and the Central Park Zoo and ended with a taping of an SNL skit on Rockefeller plaza...

Drew and I watched the SNL cast film a skit featuring Tina Fey while Laurie and Josh took the studio tour.

This SNL Castmember saw Drew on my shoulders and enjoyed making him laugh.

The Today Sh0w - Very Crowded. The cast of a Johnny Cash Broadway Musical was doing a concert outside.
